Quick anchor

A monthly brief is the mid-level digest between the daily briefs and the year-in-review: at the end of each month, you consolidate the month's developments into one structured page, capturing only the durable spine of each item and flagging every dated value. Twelve monthly briefs make the year in review almost automatic. This note is the reusable template plus an example entry. It mirrors the daily template at current affairs daily so the categories line up. Copy the template block below for each month; do not fabricate dated headlines, log real developments when you compile a real brief.

How to use this template

  1. Copy the template block into a file named for the month (for example 2026-06-monthly.md) under your working notes.
  2. For each item, fill the durable fact (which you memorise) and the dated value (which you mark "verify the latest").
  3. Link each item to its durable thematic note in Index.
  4. At the end of the period, merge the twelve monthly briefs using year in review framework.

# Monthly Brief, {{month-year}}

> CAPF lens: prioritise security, border, defence, polity, economy, schemes, appointments, indices, sports and awards. Skip ephemeral political noise. Capture the durable fact and flag every dated value.

A filled example entry (illustrative, not real news)

This shows the discipline; it uses durable structural facts, not a real dated headline.

  • Category: Economy, reports and indices.
  • Item: a global development index was released this month.
    • Durable fact: the Human Development Index is published by the UNDP and measures life expectancy, education and income.
    • Dated value (verify the latest): India's rank this year (do not assert a stale number; verify before the exam).
    • Static link: durable economy reports and indices.

The lesson the example teaches: log the publisher and the measure (durable), and mark the rank for late verification (dated). When you write a real brief, replace the illustrative item with the month's actual development and keep the same structure.

CAPF reminders

  • Capture only the durable spine of each item; the dated value goes in the appendix flagged "verify the latest".
  • Prioritise the security, defence, border and human-rights items.
  • Keep the entries short and link to the durable note; the monthly brief is an index, not an essay.
  • current affairs daily (the daily-brief template this mirrors).
  • year in review framework (how to merge twelve monthly briefs).
  • Index (the durable thematic notes each item links to).
  • Index (the dated daily and monthly briefs in the vault).
